Updates!
Is your computer up to date? A question all Runescapers should be should be able to answer.
Upgrade Hardware Drivers
Probably the most important aspects to have updated are your drivers. Without going into too much detail (there are a lot things I could go over), my simple suggestion is this: Check your computer manufacturer's website for updates. Most computer makers provide updates as problems are located, and these newer drivers will likely be faster and more stable than factory ones.
Update Java
If it is outdated, upgrading Java will fix many errors and improve performance, since Runescape runs entirely on Java.
On Windows make sure you uninstall your old version of Java First. If you don't, multiple versions of Java will install on top of each other and you'll cause conflicts and take up extra hard disk space. To uninstall Java on a go to Start->Run, type in "appwiz.cpl" (without the quotes) and click OK. Find Java(TM) [Version numbers here] and select it, and uninstall any version one by one.
Note:
On Macs you will not have to uninstall. Simply run your updater program and it should automatically update all the programs at once, including Java.
Point your browser to http://www.java.com, download Java, close any browsers, copies of Runescape, and any folders you have open, then run the installer. After it is finished you can restart your computer if you'd like, but don't need to. Try Runescape, if it runs Java is working.
Upgrade Your Browser
If you're having problems with Runescape, you might try upgrading your browser. On Macs the updater should automatically update most browsers for you. On Windows you will have to download the update manually, or use Windows Update (doesn't update Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc).
Summary
I hope these updates help you to keep your computer running smoothly. If you have problems, talk to a technical support professional, leave a comment here, or ask on the Runescape Official Forums. Remember the ROF is meant only for problems keeping you from playing Runescape.
Coming soon!
I'm still working on finding some blog software, hopefully PHP based, that allows for multi-user blogs. If I can't find something, I'll build it myself.
At the moment all of Runescape is down, offline, gone! Actually just the login, knowledge base, hiscores, and forum servers. I'm guessing the datacentre where those servers are kept has been experiencing troubles. Not to panic, Runescape will be back shortly! Please read the Runescape News Blog for updates on this critical situation.
In the meantime I'll expand on the plans for Runescape Blogs!
I'm working on allowing multiple users to post their very own blogs. At the moment, I'm unable to add the Runescape News quickly, in fact I've missed quite a few! An automatically updating news system is in order.
In the next few months, calculators, guides, and other features will be added to the site. The blogs will then become a subsection of Runescape Blogs, and a main site will be put in it's place.
